Since 1871, Zimmerli has used only the finest and most valuable raw materials. "Our finest materials are super-thin and of high fineness," says Kaspar. "In addition, with highly twisted mercerized yarns, we are able to produce superfine yet durable underwear that looks great and lasts a long time."

Whether made from the world's most exclusive cotton or sustainable,CO2-neutral materials, Zimmerli strives to create unmatched quality in handmade underwear and lingerie.

"We buy fabrics from local suppliers who are within a few hours of our headquarters," says Kaspar. "In addition, we rely on working with suppliers who are certified Greenpower, OEKO-TEX, bluesign and other sustainable specifications."

Sea Island Cotton

The Sea Island line uses the most exclusive cotton in the world. It is hand-picked in Barbados. Zimmerli is the first manufacturer to create garments from the extremely rare Sea Island cotton, resulting in products that are both silky soft and durable. "Their feel is unsurpassed and features an incomparably smooth texture," says Kaspar.

MicroModal

The Pureness line, on the other hand, is developed with the textile fiber MicroModal, which is the perfect combination of delicacy and caressing softness. "This is one of our premium stretch qualities that feels like a second skin," says Kaspar. "This material is CO2-neutral, sustainable and leaves no carbon dioxide in the air. A carbon brush is used to achieve low pilling.

Handmade Underwear

The finest underwear in the world starts with the yarn. But it's the process of spinning the fabric and working with the finest materials in the world that elevates the quality. "The design process begins with draping the fabric to achieve the desired shapes," Kaspar says.

"We transform lace and embroidery into motifs or placements. Groups are sketched, and trims are put into development. In the end, it's really about combining a unique design with quality craftsmanship."

Since 1874, Zimmerli has used an exclusive double-needle knitting machine invented by founder Pauline Zimmerli . The machine provided the impetus for the production of ribbed fabrics and lingerie in Switzerland, which continues to this day.

Handmade lingerie

Pauline Zimmerli's legacy lives on through the handmade lingerie that is still produced in Switzerland by traditional manufactures.

Among the most famous of Zimmerli's handmade lingerie is the Richelieu line, which uses a unique and refined knitting process that dates back to the 1930s. For more than 50 years, Zimmerli has used the flat knitting machine to knit a superfine, long-staple, two-ply yarn that characterizes luxurious comfort and makes each Richelieu item one-of-a-kind, handmade in Switzerland.

"The result is a refined and lightweight quality," Kaspar says. "It creates the legendary soft touch."

The MaudePrivé line also stands out for its attention to detail. The lingerie and negligee are handmade in Switzerland and made of 100% pure cotton. The sophisticated ribbed fabric is worked as a single loop, so the dainty garments in this line have no side seams. "The Maude Privé line has been handmade in Switzerland for more than 15 years," says Kaspar. The ajouré rib is made of pure cotton and hides beautiful little design features while being slightly transparent.

Whether cotton or micromodalcellulose fiber, the quality of Zimmerli's handmade underwear is in the properties of the materials used. "Cotton is a natural fiber that is breathable, soft, hypoallergenic, comfortable and durable," says Kaspar. "Micromodal, on the other hand, is a cellulose fiber that is silky soft, shrink-resistant and moisture-regulating."

An important feature of all Zimmerli materials, Kaspar says, is that the items can be washed at a minimum of 40 degrees and retain their shape and structure over the years.

The Cotton De Luxe line, for example, uses mercerized cotton, which uses yarn that is drawn long and then twisted to make it super thin, soft and durable. The items can even be put in the tumbler without worry. "Zimmerli uses natural fibers and high-quality fabrics," she says. "It's in the company's DNA to put manufacturing above quality," she says.

Swiss quality

To ensure the highest quality Swiss products, Zimmerli's handmade underwear goes through a rigorous quality process as new fabrics are developed. First, Zimmerli seeks suppliers that produce under the MADEIN GREEN by OEKO-TEX® certificate , which guarantees that products are safe for health and are manufactured in environmentally friendly facilities. In addition, haptics and appearance are tested to ensure the durability of the fabric over time. Technical reports are prepared to observe shrinkage values, swirl, burst pressure or tear strength, seam slip resistance, pilling, stretch and fastness properties. The products are then washed ten times in a domestic washing machine in Aarburg, Switzerland, and pilling and appearance of the linen are checked after several cycles. Finally, the quality of the seams is checked and the samples are worn to maintain the legendary Zimmerli feel.
