"The environmentally friendly mindset is part of the Zimmerli DNA. This attitude is lived throughout the entire value chain: from the sourcing of materials to the completion of the product, at Zimmerli every step of the process is carried out as environmentally consciously as possible," says Andreas Frei, COO of Zimmerli of Switzerland, who is responsible for sourcing and production. Zimmerli achieves all the requirements of environmentally friendly and socially responsible production companies, guaranteed by the "STeP by OEKO-TEX®" certification.

Quality instead of quantity in the age of mass production

In Zimmerli's production facilities in Mendrisio the quality of the final product is the top priority.

This mentality can already be found in the early stages of the company in the nineteenth century. In times of industrialisation and thus mass production, Zimmerli always remained true to its values. Even today, the Swiss textile company produces consciously and continues to focus on quality rather than quantity, unlike many other fashion companies do.

Underwear made of fibres of natural origin

A sustainable end product includes not only the handling of production, but also the use of specific materials. "We source the raw materials from local suppliers. 90 percent of the fibres are renewable and from natural origin," says Andreas Frei. Whenever a new supplier is sought, they must at least be awarded with the "OEKO TEX® STANDARD 100". This standard stands for the harmless processing of materials and so that their products are free of harmful substances. "In general, Zimmerli uses only high quality materials for its products, such as cotton, wool and linen."

The label "MADE IN GREEN" stands for exceptionally sustainable products.

A certification which at Zimmerli mainly concerns the underwear line is the independent product label “MADE IN GREEN” by OEKO-TEX®. In addition to guaranteeing that the product has been produced free of harmful substances and in an environmentally friendly manner in a socially responsible production company, the aim of MADE IN GREEN® is to enable the tracking of products. The label provides information about the production plants which the article was manufactured in and thus offers the consumer full transparency.

SUPREME GREEN COTTON® stands for the sourcing of sustainable cotton.

You will find this standard in Zimmerli's loungewear products.With the label "SUPREME GREEN COTTON®" Zimmerli concentrates on the supply of sustainable and fairly grown cotton. With this label, transparency and traceability of the textiles are guaranteed, in addition that the raw material is grown on certified family farms in Greece. SUPREME GREEN COTTON® stands for the European standard of social sustainability: fair salaries, social security, appropriate working conditions and working hours as well as regional sourcing.
