“From the first wear to the wash, Zimmerli products are designed to last.”
Made-by-hand in Switzerland, items are tried and tested to fulfill quality, durability and hygienic standards, ensuring products hold their shape and structure over the years.
How to care for the world’s finest underwear
Underwear is worn directly on the skin, so many people prefer to wash with a higher temperature to get a clean result and anti-bacterial effects. Typically, fine underwear comes with a long list of washing instructions.
“Zimmerli uses all-natural fibers and premium fabrics. Therefore, caring for the world’s finest underwear is actually easier than you might think.”
Finest materials - and easy to care
Properly caring for your Zimmerli garments keeps your items looking their best. Generally it is important not to use strong chemical detergents or bleach whiteners for coloured fabrics and for materials like silk or wool. Also avoid washing with heavy fabrics, such as jeans, towels, terry cloth and fleece or with sharp items such as zippers, which can tangle and damage delicate fibers.
Cotton Underwear Care
Cotton is a soft, durable fabric with superior moisture absorption, which can be easily washed in the washing machine. Warm water will suffice, however higher temperatures will provide a clean result with antibacterial effects.
“Many cotton basic underwear items can be washed with 60°C to achieve properly clean underwear.”
Zimmerli of Switzerland uses a variety of cotton in their garments, including the extremely rare and most exclusive Sea Island cotton. These cotton fibers are simple in form, but provide a natural silky shine, rivaling the softest cashmere. Sea Island underwear may be washed at 60 degrees Celsius. The same goes, for instance, for Royal Classic underwear, which has been synonymous with the finest underwear in the world since 1964 as well as for the world-famous Hollywood tank top from the line Richelieu.
Royal Classic Shirt made of 100% cotton can be washed at 60°C
To best care for your Zimmerli cotton underwear, we recommend you separate lights from darks, and wash separately. Wash your Zimmerli underwear and loungewear separate from towels, jeans and other materials that can damage your more delicate items.
Basically, tumble drying is possible for cotton items. We recommend to air-dry all items. It is important to keep the items out of direct sunlight, as it can damage the color.
Modal Fiber Care
The textile fibre MicroModal represents the perfect combination of delicacy and caressing softness.
Cellulose fibers like micromodal or lyocell are made by spinning reconstituted cellulose derived from beech trees. This natural beech fibre absorbs up to 50 percent more moisture than cotton and quickly transports it away from the skin. Furthermore, the Lycra content gives it maximum elasticity.
At Zimmerli, we use this fiber in the Pureness line, for garments that feel like a second skin. Wash cellulose fibers like micromodal or lyocell on a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius and line dry.
Wool and Silk Care
Silk and wool are natural, protein based fibres that are resilient and long lasting. However, they are some of the more delicate fibers to care for.
At Zimmerli Switzerland, we use pure silk in garments including boxers, dressing gowns and pyjamas. It has a dense weave and is resistant to creasing. It is also very skin-friendly and particularly suitable for allergy sufferers, and offers excellent temperature regulation. In cool temperatures it feels comfortably warm; when conditions are warmer it has a pleasantly cool feel.
Additionally, we use a combination of silk and wool in many of our warming garments, including long johns and undershirts. The combination of cool silk fibres and warming merino wool create an airy and elastic fabric. These garments provide an aesthetic sense of well being for the cold days.
"To care for wool or silk garments, we recommend washing at 30°C and use a gentle detergent."
It’s important here to use a gentle detergent. Strong chemical detergents, bleach and whiterners can damage delicate fabrics. Look for silk and wool safe detergents. Laying your garments flat as they dry can help prevent them from stretching out, which will extend their lifecycle.
Lace Underwear Care
Straight into the washing machine - despite the filigree Ajouré ribs and delicate lace
Some Zimmerli garments including the Maude Privé line use the finest woven lace from the French region of Calais. These dainty garments include design features that are handsewn in Switzerland.
"Machine washing lace garments is possible. The temperature should be maximum 40°C."
This applies for example to the Maude Privé icons Hipster and Top. More sensitive items with laces cannot be washed that strong. Depending on the item, a gentle and 30 degrees Celsius cycle in a washing bag which helps to protect the delicate lace is recommended. Items should be dried flat, tumble dry is not possible.
